Plant Care

Watering

During summer, Water daily or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. During Winter season water once in 2 days or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil lightly moist at all times, but do not overwater as this will cause brown spots and leaf drop. Curly or dry leaves suggest, the plant is dry and needs watering. Water in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Always check your soil before watering.

Light

During summer season keep the plants in shaded area and during winter season plants can withstand direct/indirect light.

Temperature

During summer season or when the temperature is above 45°C place the plant in shaded area. During winter season or the when the temperature is below 45°C the plants can be directly placed in direct/indirect sunlight.

Fertilizer

Apply liquid fertilizer or slow release fertilizer once in 15 days. Always fertilizer the plants during the morning hours when the temperature is low. For best results use Folikraft ready to use Outdoor Plant Food / Flower Booster.

Plant Bio

India Hawthorn, scientifically known as Rhaphiolepis indica, is a compact and attractive evergreen shrub that's commonly grown for its ornamental qualities, including its clusters of fragrant flowers and glossy foliage. Here's a description and care guide for India Hawthorn:

Description:

Appearance: India Hawthorn is a dense, rounded shrub with a tidy, bushy growth habit. It typically reaches a height of 3 to 6 feet (0.9 to 1.8 meters) and has a similar spread.

Leaves: The shrub features leathery, dark green, elliptical leaves that are glossy and attractive throughout the year. The foliage often takes on a bronze or reddish tinge in the fall and winter.

Flowers: India Hawthorn produces small, fragrant flowers in clusters. The flowers come in various colors, including white, pink, or red, depending on the cultivar. They typically bloom in spring, creating a burst of color and fragrance.

Fruit: After flowering, India Hawthorn may produce small, berry-like fruits that can range in color from red to black. These fruits are not typically considered ornamental and are generally not used for consumption.

Care Guide:

Planting:

Choose a well-draining location with full to partial sun exposure for your India Hawthorn. It can tolerate a range of soil types but prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil.

Watering:

Water newly planted India Hawthorn regularly to help establish a strong root system. Once established, the shrub is relatively drought-tolerant, but it benefits from occasional deep watering during dry spells.

Mulching:

Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the shrub to conserve moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds. Be sure to keep the mulch away from the main stem to prevent issues with rot.

Pruning:

Prune India Hawthorn as needed to maintain its shape and encourage new growth. Pruning is typically done after flowering. Remove dead or diseased branches, and shape the shrub as desired.

Fertilization:

India Hawthorn usually doesn't require heavy fertilization. You can apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring to provide essential nutrients. Follow the product's instructions for application rates.

Pest and Disease Management:

India Hawthorn is generally resistant to most pests and diseases. However, keep an eye out for issues such as aphids, scale insects, or leaf spot diseases and treat them promptly if they occur.

Winter Protection:

In areas with harsh winters, consider providing protection to young or vulnerable India Hawthorn plants during cold weather, especially from cold winds or freezing temperatures.

Spacing:

When planting India Hawthorn, provide adequate spacing between shrubs to ensure good air circulation and prevent overcrowding.

Companion Planting:

India Hawthorn can be a great companion plant in mixed shrub borders or flower beds. Its compact size and attractive foliage make it a versatile addition to your landscape.

India Hawthorn is a low-maintenance, ornamental shrub that's appreciated for its year-round appeal, from glossy green leaves to fragrant spring blooms. With proper care, it can thrive and enhance the aesthetics of your garden or landscape.
