Plant Care

Watering

During summer, Water daily or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. During Winter season water once in 2 days or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil lightly moist at all times, but do not overwater as this will cause brown spots and leaf drop. Curly or dry leaves suggest, the plant is dry and needs watering. Water in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Always check your soil before watering.

Light

During summer season keep the plants in shaded area and during winter season plants can withstand direct/indirect light.

Temperature

During summer season or when the temperature is above 45°C place the plant in shaded area. During winter season or the when the temperature is below 45°C the plants can be directly placed in direct/indirect sunlight.

Fertilizer

Apply liquid fertilizer or slow release fertilizer once in 15 days. Always fertilizer the plants during the morning hours when the temperature is low. For best results use Folikraft ready to use Outdoor Plant Food / Flower Booster.

Plant Bio

Ficus virens, commonly known as the Pilkhan Tree or White Fig, is a large evergreen tree belonging to the Ficus genus, known for its broad canopy and aerial roots. Here's a description and care guide for Ficus virens:

Description:

Foliage: The Pilkhan Tree features large, leathery, glossy, elliptic or ovate leaves that are dark green on the upper surface and lighter green beneath. The leaves can vary in size, with prominent veins.

Aerial Roots: Similar to other Ficus species, it often develops aerial roots that hang down from the branches, aiding in stability and absorbing nutrients from the air.

Fruits: The tree produces small, spherical figs that change from green to purple-black when ripe. These figs are often eaten by birds and wildlife.

Size: In ideal conditions, Ficus virens can reach substantial heights, commonly growing to 100 feet (30 meters) or taller, with a wide canopy spread.

Care Guide:

Light: Provide bright, indirect sunlight. Ficus virens tolerates a wide range of light conditions but prefers bright, filtered light. Protect it from prolonged exposure to intense, direct sunlight.

Temperature: It thrives in warm to tropical climates. It's sensitive to frost and prefers temperatures above 50°F (10°C).

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during the growing season, but avoid waterlogging. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry. Reduce watering in winter.

Humidity: It appreciates higher humidity levels. Regular misting or placing the plant in a location with increased humidity can benefit its growth.

Soil: Use well-draining, fertile soil. A mixture of loam, peat moss, and perlite works well. Ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogged roots.

Fertilization: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season to promote healthy growth. Follow the instructions on the fertilizer label.

Pruning: Prune to maintain the desired shape and size. Regularly remove dead, damaged, or overcrowded branches to encourage new growth.

Pest and Disease Management: Monitor for pests like scale insects or aphids. Treat any infestations promptly with appropriate measures.

Propagation: Ficus virens can be propagated through stem cuttings or air layering. Stem cuttings root easily in suitable conditions.

Ficus virens, the Pilkhan Tree, is a majestic tree with impressive foliage and a sprawling canopy. It's commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions, serving as an ornamental tree in landscapes or parks. With proper care, including suitable lighting, watering, fertilization, and occasional pruning, you can help your Ficus virens thrive and display its grandeur in an outdoor setting.
