Plant Care

Watering

During summer, Water daily or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. During Winter season water once in 2 days or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil lightly moist at all times, but do not overwater as this will cause brown spots and leaf drop. Curly or dry leaves suggest, the plant is dry and needs watering. Water in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Always check your soil before watering.

Light

During summer season keep the plants in shaded area and during winter season plants can withstand direct/indirect light.

Temperature

During summer season or when the temperature is above 45°C place the plant in shaded area. During winter season or the when the temperature is below 45°C the plants can be directly placed in direct/indirect sunlight.

Fertilizer

Apply liquid fertilizer or slow release fertilizer once in 15 days. Always fertilizer the plants during the morning hours when the temperature is low. For best results use Folikraft ready to use Outdoor Plant Food / Flower Booster.

Plant Bio

Acacia farnesiana, commonly known as Sweet Acacia or Huisache, is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree native to the southwestern United States, Mexico, and Central America. It belongs to the Fabaceae family. Here's a description and care guide for Acacia farnesiana:

Description:

Foliage: The bipinnate leaves of Acacia farnesiana are composed of numerous small leaflets arranged along the branches. The foliage is typically feathery and dark green.

Flowers: The tree produces highly fragrant, small, yellow-golden flowers in clusters. The blooms are visually attractive and have a sweet, mimosa-like fragrance.

Fruit: The fruit is a legume, which is a flat, brown pod containing seeds.

Bark: The bark is smooth and gray when young, becoming more rough and furrowed with age.

Size: Sweet Acacia can reach a height of 15 to 30 feet (4.5 to 9 meters) with a similar spread, forming a rounded and spreading canopy.

Care Guide:

Light: Acacia farnesiana thrives in full sun. Plant it in a location where it can receive plenty of sunlight throughout the day.

Temperature: The tree is well-suited to warm climates and is hardy in USDA hardiness zones 8-11. It can tolerate high temperatures and is relatively drought-tolerant.

Watering: While Sweet Acacia is drought-tolerant once established, regular watering is beneficial, especially during dry periods. Provide well-draining soil to prevent waterlogging.

Soil: Plant in well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. The tree is adaptable to various soil types, including sandy or loamy soils.

Fertilization: Sweet Acacia generally doesn't require heavy fertilization. However, a balanced, slow-release fertilizer applied in the growing season can promote healthy growth.

Pruning: Prune as needed to shape the tree, remove dead or diseased branches, and encourage a more compact form. Regular pruning can help maintain an attractive appearance.

Pest and Disease Management: Sweet Acacia is relatively resistant to pests and diseases. However, keep an eye out for potential issues like aphids or scale insects, and treat them promptly if detected.

Propagation: Propagate Acacia farnesiana through seeds. Scarify the seeds by nicking or scratching the seed coat before planting. Germination may take a few weeks.

Sweet Acacia is valued for its fragrant flowers and adaptability to arid and semi-arid environments. It is often used in landscaping for its ornamental qualities and ability to attract pollinators. By providing it with appropriate sunlight, well-draining soil, regular watering, and occasional feeding, you can cultivate a healthy and visually appealing Sweet Acacia tree in your landscape.
