Plant Care

Watering

During summer, Water daily or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. During Winter season water once in 2 days or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil lightly moist at all times, but do not overwater as this will cause brown spots and leaf drop. Curly or dry leaves suggest, the plant is dry and needs watering. Water in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Always check your soil before watering.

Light

During summer season keep the plants in shaded area and during winter season plants can withstand direct/indirect light.

Temperature

During summer season or when the temperature is above 45°C place the plant in shaded area. During winter season or the when the temperature is below 45°C the plants can be directly placed in direct/indirect sunlight.

Fertilizer

Apply liquid fertilizer or slow release fertilizer once in 15 days. Always fertilizer the plants during the morning hours when the temperature is low. For best results use Folikraft ready to use Outdoor Plant Food / Flower Booster.

Product Bio

Euonymus japonicus 'Albomarginatus,' commonly known as Japanese Euonymus or Japanese Spindle, is an evergreen shrub prized for its variegated foliage and versatility in landscaping. Here's a description and care guide for Euonymus japonicus 'Albomarginatus':

Description:

Leaves: The most distinctive feature of 'Albomarginatus' is its foliage. The leaves are elliptical to oblong and have a glossy dark green color with striking white to creamy-yellow margins. This variegation adds a bright and eye-catching element to the landscape.

Growth Habit: Japanese Euonymus is typically grown as a compact shrub, but it can also be pruned and shaped into hedges, topiaries, or standards. It has a dense, bushy growth habit and can reach heights of 4 to 6 feet (1.2 to 1.8 meters) if left unpruned.

Flowers: Inconspicuous, greenish-white flowers appear in late spring to early summer, but they are not a prominent feature of this plant.

Fruit: Small, ornamental pink to red capsules develop after flowering and can add additional visual interest to the shrub. However, they are not typically the primary reason for growing this cultivar.

Care:

Sunlight: Japanese Euonymus 'Albomarginatus' thrives in partial to full sun. It can tolerate light shade but may produce less vibrant variegation in lower light conditions. Plant it in a location with at least 4-6 hours of sunlight per day for the best foliage color.

Soil: Plant in well-draining soil with good fertility. The shrub can tolerate a range of soil types, including loamy, sandy, or clay soils, as long as the drainage is adequate.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during the first growing season when the shrub is establishing its root system. Once established, it can tolerate some drought but prefers regular watering.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring to encourage healthy growth and vibrant foliage. Follow the package instructions for the correct dosage.

Pruning: Pruning can help maintain the desired shape and size of the shrub. You can prune it in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Japanese Euonymus is responsive to pruning and can be shaped into various forms, including hedges and topiaries.

Mulching: Applying a layer of mulch around the base of the shrub helps retain soil moisture, regulates soil temperature, and reduces weed competition.

Pests and Diseases: Japanese Euonymus is generally resistant to pests and diseases. However, it can be susceptible to scale insects or aphids. Inspect your plant regularly and treat any infestations promptly.

Winter Protection: In colder climates, consider protecting your 'Albomarginatus' shrub from harsh winter conditions with burlap or a protective covering. This is especially important for young plants.

Japanese Euonymus 'Albomarginatus' is a versatile and attractive shrub that can enhance the visual appeal of your garden or landscape with its variegated foliage. With proper care, it can thrive and provide year-round interest.
