Plant Care

Watering

During summer, Water daily or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. During Winter season water once in 2 days or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil lightly moist at all times, but do not overwater as this will cause brown spots and leaf drop. Curly or dry leaves suggest, the plant is dry and needs watering. Water in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Always check your soil before watering.

Light

During summer season keep the plants in shaded area and during winter season plants can withstand direct/indirect light.

Temperature

During summer season or when the temperature is above 45°C place the plant in shaded area. During winter season or the when the temperature is below 45°C the plants can be directly placed in direct/indirect sunlight.

Fertilizer

Apply liquid fertilizer or slow release fertilizer once in 15 days. Always fertilizer the plants during the morning hours when the temperature is low. For best results use Folikraft ready to use Outdoor Plant Food / Flower Booster.

Plant Bio

Ficus benjamina, commonly known as the Weeping Fig or Green Island Fig, is a versatile tree that can be grown outdoors in suitable climates. It's appreciated for its graceful appearance, glossy green leaves, and adaptability. Here's a description and care guide for an outdoor Ficus benjamina tree:

Description:

Foliage: Ficus benjamina trees have dense, evergreen foliage with glossy, elliptical leaves that are dark green in color. The leaves can vary in size but are typically 2 to 5 inches long. The plant's weeping growth habit gives it an elegant and somewhat cascading appearance.

Growth Habit: When grown outdoors, Ficus benjamina can develop into a small to medium-sized tree, reaching heights of 20 to 50 feet (6 to 15 meters) or more under optimal conditions. It forms a single or multi-trunked structure.

Fruit: Ficus benjamina produces small, spherical fig-like fruits that are typically not a prominent feature of the tree.

Care Guide:

Climate and Location:

Ficus benjamina thrives in tropical and subtropical climates. It's not suitable for regions with harsh winters or freezing temperatures. Plant it in a location that receives bright, indirect sunlight, although it can tolerate some direct sun.

Soil:

Use well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (around 6.0-7.0). The soil should retain some moisture but also drain well to prevent root rot.

Watering:

Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the growing season (spring and summer). Ensure the soil never dries out completely. Reduce watering in the dormant season (fall and winter) but don't let the soil become bone dry.

Fertilization:

Feed your outdoor Ficus benjamina with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer formulated for trees in the spring and late summer. Follow the product's instructions for application rates.

Pruning:

Prune your Ficus benjamina tree as needed to control its size and shape. Regular pruning can help manage its weeping habit and improve air circulation within the canopy.

Protection from Cold:

In regions with occasional cold weather, provide protection for your Ficus benjamina during winter months. Cover the tree or move it to a sheltered location if freezing temperatures are expected.

Pest and Disease Management:

Keep an eye out for common outdoor tree pests and diseases, including aphids, scale insects, and fungal issues. Use appropriate pest control methods if needed.

Ficus benjamina is a beautiful addition to outdoor landscapes in suitable climates, offering its lush foliage and elegant appearance. With proper care and protection from extreme conditions, it can thrive as a tree in your outdoor environment, providing both shade and aesthetic appeal.
