Plant Care

Watering

Wet the seed starting mix. Push your finger into the soil to your first knuckle and make sure it is damp. Excess water should drain through.

Light

Indirect sunlight, 6 to 8 hours

Temperature

Maintain temperatures between 18°C - 24°C. Avoid draughts as these can create undesirable temperature fluctuations. Consider giving your plant an occasional misting twice every week to maintain the optimum humidity level.

Fertilizer

Provide fertilizer once the first true leaves emerge. The first set of leaves that appear are known as the seed leaves. The second set of leaves are the first ‘true leaves,’ and a sign that your plant is getting mature and ready for serious growth. Dilute a balanced fertilizer to ¼ the strength recommended. Fertilize once in 2 weeks.

Product Bio

Growing cauliflower from seeds requires careful attention to timing, soil, and environmental conditions. Here’s how to sow and care for cauliflower seeds:

Timing and Location: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost date for a spring crop, or direct sow outdoors 6-8 weeks before the first frost date for a fall crop. Choose a location with full sun.

Soil Preparation: Use a well-draining, fertile seed starting mix for indoor sowing. Prepare garden soil by loosening it to a depth of 12 inches (30 cm) and incorporating compost or well-rotted manure to improve fertility.

Sowing: Sow cauliflower seeds ¼ inch deep in seed trays or pots. Space seeds about 2 inches (5 cm) apart. Cover lightly with soil and water gently.

Moisture and Temperature: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Maintain a soil temperature of 65-75°F (18-24°C) for optimal germination, which typically occurs in 7-10 days.

Thinning and Transplanting: Once seedlings have two sets of true leaves, thin them to ensure they have enough space. Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions for a week before transplanting. Space the plants 18-24 inches (45-60 cm) apart in rows 24-30 inches (60-75 cm) apart.

Care: Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, particularly during dry periods. Mulch around the plants to conserve moisture and control weeds. Apply a balanced fertilizer every 2-4 weeks to support growth. Protect young plants from pests and provide shade for developing heads to prevent them from becoming discolored.

By providing the right growing conditions and diligent care, you can enjoy a successful cauliflower harvest.
