The Aeschynanthus lipstick vine has pointy, waxy leaves and blooms with bright clusters of flowers. Vivid red blossoms emerge from a dark maroon bud reminiscent of a tube of lipstick. Growing lipstick plants is not difficult, and with proper care, you get rewarded with continuous flowers.
Bright light with some direct sun in winter. Plants that don't bloom aren't getting enough light. Place your plant in a bright location and you can expect flowers all spring and summer. Water thoroughly, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Keep the soil slightly drier in winter. Wrinkled leaves are a sign of dry soil. Yellow leaves usually indicate too much water. Moderate to high room humidity. Try to keep relative humidity around 50% or higher. A peat moss based potting mix will be most apt for this lovely plant. Added perlite will help to aerate the roots and speed up the drainage, preventing waterlogged soil.
