Whether you’re adding frozen wild blueberries to a breakfast smoothie, chickpeas to chocolate chip cookies, or Greek yogurt on a fish taco, every dish can include a powerful nutritional boost and still taste absolutely delicious.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that I’m probably not alone in this: my husband hates vegetables. I’ve seen him cringe—or worse yet, sigh—when he sees vegetables on his plate. If left to his own devices, he would probably live on pizza and cheeseburgers alone. But a couple of years ago, the same year that both his dad and his uncle had heart attacks in their fifties, my husband was diagnosed with high cholesterol and began daily medication to prevent a heart attack of his own.

This was the wake-up call both he and I needed. I had already changed my own diet, lost 50 pounds (22.7 kg), started a blog, and gone from obese to healthy, but while I made an egg scramble with kale, tomatoes, and garlic for myself, he was still eating a pepperoni pizza. While I snacked on Greek yogurt with fruit and nuts, he was devouring a bag of chips. You couldn’t tell from his appearance, as he’s always been naturally lean, but he wasn’t healthy on the inside. I was making meals with superfoods, but he wasn’t eating them.

After the diagnosis, however, I decided that I had to get more creative in the kitchen. I needed to make more of an effort to prepare dishes that included healthy foods that I knew he’d be more likely to not only enjoy, but finish. And that’s where this book comes in. All of the recipes have been tested, devoured, and approved by my wonderfully picky husband, so if you have someone similar living in your house- hold, fear not!
