Plant Care

Watering

During summer, Water daily or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. During Winter season water once in 2 days or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil lightly moist at all times, but do not overwater as this will cause brown spots and leaf drop. Curly or dry leaves suggest, the plant is dry and needs watering. Water in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Always check your soil before watering.

Light

During summer season keep the plants in shaded area and during winter season plants can withstand direct/indirect light.

Temperature

During summer season or when the temperature is above 45°C place the plant in shaded area. During winter season or the when the temperature is below 45°C the plants can be directly placed in direct/indirect sunlight.

Fertilizer

Apply liquid fertilizer or slow release fertilizer once in 15 days. Always fertilizer the plants during the morning hours when the temperature is low. For best results use Folikraft ready to use Outdoor Plant Food / Flower Booster.

Plant Bio

The Manila Tamarind or Madras Thorn Tree (Pithecellobium dulce) is a versatile and hardy tree, well-suited for outdoor landscapes across the UAE. Known for its umbrella-shaped canopy and thorny branches, this tree provides excellent shade and serves as a natural windbreak, making it a valuable addition to gardens, farms, or large outdoor spaces.

One of its most appealing features is its edible pods, which have a tangy-sweet pulp enjoyed fresh or in traditional recipes. This makes the Manila Tamarind both an ornamental and fruit-bearing tree. Its dense foliage also provides a natural habitat for birds and pollinators, supporting local biodiversity.

The Madras Thorn Tree thrives in full sun, tolerates drought, and adapts well to sandy or rocky soil, making it ideal for the UAE climate. Minimal maintenance is required once established, and it grows quickly with deep watering during its early years.

For landscaping, it pairs beautifully with other hardy species like Neem, Sidr, or Date Palm to create a sustainable, low-maintenance green space.

Care tips: Plant in full sunlight, water deeply but infrequently, and trim to control its size or shape. Fertilize annually with organic compost for healthier growth and fruit production.
