Bright indoor light or indirect sun. 6 hours to 8 hours
Maintain temperatures between 18°C - 24°C. Avoid draughts as these can create undesirable temperature fluctuations. Consider giving your plant an occasional misting twice every week to maintain the optimum humidity level.
Apply liquid fertilizer once in 15 days when the plant is actively growing. For best results use Folikraft ready to use Indoor Plant Food.
Ionantha Rubra is very similar to Ionantha Guatemala in shape and form. What differentiates the two is that Ionantha Rubra tends to have fewer trichomes and often a taller appearance as they get larger.
Rubra are the perfect glass terrarium plant. If you have seen an already set up air plant vase, there is a good chance you have also seen a Rubra in there. They have the ideal shape for terrariums, wood displays, air plant frames, and general mounting. They also respond well to misting, but soaking is always preferred.
Rubras turn a beautiful red/pink color with a purple flower when in bloom.
These plants do need a humid environment to thrive, so a bright bathroom or steamy kitchen would be ideal. Misting with water a couple of times a week usually supplies sufficient water, although additional watering may be required in a dry hot environment. Remember to shake off any excess water though as they dislike overwatering and should never be allowed to sit in water for any length of time. If possible use rain water, especially in hard water areas, and never use water from a water softner.
