Plant Care

Watering

During summer, Water daily or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. During Winter season water once in 2 days or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil lightly moist at all times, but do not overwater as this will cause brown spots and leaf drop. Curly or dry leaves suggest, the plant is dry and needs watering. Water in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Always check your soil before watering.

Light

During summer season keep the plants in shaded area and during winter season plants can withstand direct/indirect light.

Temperature

During summer season or when the temperature is above 45°C place the plant in shaded area. During winter season or the when the temperature is below 45°C the plants can be directly placed in direct/indirect sunlight.

Fertilizer

Apply liquid fertilizer or slow release fertilizer once in 15 days. Always fertilizer the plants during the morning hours when the temperature is low. For best results use Folikraft ready to use Outdoor Plant Food / Flower Booster.

Plant Bio

The Neem tree, scientifically known as Azadirachta indica, is a versatile and valuable tree native to the Indian subcontinent. It is renowned for its various medicinal, agricultural, and environmental benefits. Here's a description and care guide for the Neem tree:

Description:

Foliage: Neem trees have evergreen, pinnate leaves with 20 to 31 leaflets arranged in pairs. The leaves are lance-shaped and have a distinct bitter taste.

Flowers: Small, fragrant, white flowers are produced in clusters, typically appearing between February and May.

Fruit: The fruits are olive-like drupes, green when young and turning yellow as they ripen. They contain a seed, and the pulp is often used for various purposes.

Bark: The bark is rough, dark brown, and fissured.

Size: Neem trees can reach heights of 50 to 65 feet (15 to 20 meters) or more, with a spread of about 15 to 20 feet (4.5 to 6 meters).

Care Guide:

Light: Neem trees thrive in full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Ensure they receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Temperature: Neem trees are well-adapted to warm climates. They can tolerate high temperatures but are sensitive to frost. They are best suited for USDA hardiness zones 10-12.

Watering: Neem trees are relatively drought-tolerant once established. Water regularly during the dry season, but avoid waterlogging. Young trees may require more frequent watering.

Soil: Neem trees are not too demanding when it comes to soil, but they prefer well-draining soil. They can grow in a wide range of soil types, from sandy to loamy.

Fertilization: Neem trees are moderate feeders. Apply a balanced fertilizer in the growing season (spring to early fall) to support healthy growth. Organic matter, such as well-rotted manure, can also be beneficial.

Pruning: Prune Neem trees as needed to shape them, remove dead or diseased branches, and promote good air circulation. Regular pruning can help maintain a manageable size.

Pest and Disease Management: Neem trees are renowned for their pest-repelling properties. However, they can still face issues with pests like aphids or scale insects. Neem oil, derived from the seeds, is often used as a natural pesticide. The tree is also resistant to many diseases.

Propagation: Neem trees can be propagated from seeds. The seeds should be extracted from the fleshy fruit and sown in well-draining soil. Germination can take a few weeks.

Neem trees are celebrated for their medicinal properties, with various parts of the tree being used in traditional medicine. Additionally, Neem oil, derived from the seeds, is widely used in agriculture as a natural pesticide and soil conditioner. By providing Neem trees with the right growing conditions, including sunlight, well-draining soil, regular watering, and occasional feeding, you can enjoy the many benefits of this remarkable tree.
