Plant Care

Watering

During summer, Water daily or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. During Winter season water once in 2 days or when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil lightly moist at all times, but do not overwater as this will cause brown spots and leaf drop. Curly or dry leaves suggest, the plant is dry and needs watering. Water in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Always check your soil before watering.

Light

During summer season keep the plants in shaded area and during winter season plants can withstand direct/indirect light.

Temperature

During summer season or when the temperature is above 45°C place the plant in shaded area. During winter season or the when the temperature is below 45°C the plants can be directly placed in direct/indirect sunlight.

Fertilizer

Apply liquid fertilizer or slow release fertilizer once in 15 days. Always fertilizer the plants during the morning hours when the temperature is low. For best results use Folikraft ready to use Outdoor Plant Food / Flower Booster.

Plant Bio

Hibiscus mutabilis, commonly known as the Confederate Rose, Changeable Rose, or Cotton Rose, is a deciduous flowering shrub belonging to the Hibiscus genus. Here's a description and care guide for this plant:

Description:

Foliage: The leaves of Hibiscus mutabilis are green, deeply lobed, and toothed, resembling maple leaves. They are generally medium to dark green in color and provide a lovely backdrop to the flowers.

Flowers: One of the most striking features of this plant is its large, showy flowers. The flowers are large and double-layered, changing color throughout the day. They typically start off white in the morning, change to pink or light red during the day, and then deepen to dark pink or red by evening.

Size: Confederate Roses can grow as large shrubs or small trees, reaching heights of around 8-12 feet (2.4-3.7 meters) tall and spreading about 6-10 feet (1.8-3 meters) wide.

Care Guide:

Light: Plant the Confederate Rose in a location with full sun to partial shade. It thrives in full sun but can tolerate some shade, especially during the hottest part of the day.

Temperature: It is adaptable to various temperatures but generally prefers warm climates. It's suitable for USDA hardiness zones 7b to 10.

Watering: Provide regular watering, especially during dry periods and when the plant is establishing itself. Ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged.

Soil: Use well-draining, fertile soil. A loamy soil type enriched with organic matter works well for this plant.

Fertilization: Feed the plant with a balanced fertilizer during the growing season, typically in spring and summer, following the manufacturer's instructions.

Pruning: Prune to shape the plant and remove dead or diseased branches. Confederate Roses can be pruned heavily in late winter or early spring to encourage new growth and maintain shape.

Pest and Disease Management: Confederate Roses are relatively resistant to pests and diseases. However, watch for potential issues such as aphids or spider mites. Treat any infestations promptly.

Propagation: Propagation can be done through seeds or stem cuttings. Softwood cuttings taken in spring or summer often root successfully.

Hibiscus mutabilis, with its stunning color-changing flowers and attractive foliage, is a charming addition to gardens and landscapes. By providing proper sunlight, watering, occasional fertilization, and appropriate pruning, you can help your Confederate Rose thrive and showcase its beautiful flowers throughout the blooming season.
